Archives of the
Amélia de Mello Foundation
WHO WE ARE
The historical archive project of the Amélia de Mello Foundation (FAM) emerged in 2018 within the framework of FAM’s activities, both to preserve an exceptional historical heritage and to allow researchers access to primary sources of information.
A portal was launched in 2021, as part of the commemorations of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Alfredo da Silva. Following a process of selection, cataloguing and classification of the documentation, the Amélia de Mello Foundation took a decisive step towards transforming this historical heritage into a source of knowledge.
By creating the CUF-Alfredo da Silva archive, the Amélia de Mello Foundation took on the mission of preserving a unique heritage within the Portuguese archival landscape.
THE ARCHIVE
The Historical Archive of the Amélia de Mello Foundation is composed of three distinct archives, made available here in the form of an equal number of databases. The Documentary Archive brings together documentation of historical interest belonging to CUF (now Bondalti) and the companies that succeeded it. Occasionally it is also possible to find documentation from other companies belonging to the CUF group. The Photographic Archive contains several tens of thousands of photographs in different formats. The Plans and Drawings Archive holds approximately 135,000 plans and drawings produced by the technical services of the CUF group. Researchers can also search a database of documentation relating to the CUF group that can be found in Portuguese public archives.
The documentation held in the archive covers a wide range of topics, from industrial decisions taken, to human resources, social welfare and architecture. The oldest documents date back to the late 19th century and the collection extends, for the most part, up to 2007.
